Message from Mountain View Precinct

Mountain View Communities-

Recently, I was approached by Sergeant Hayes with the Property Crimes Bureau within the Mountain View precinct and asked if I could send out a helpful reminder to the neighborhoods within our boundaries. Our property Crimes Bureau has noticed a rise in property crimes from more affluent areas.

There is no way to guarantee a crime will not occur, there are ways to deter crime.  The following are just a few things which can be done to lower the risk of becoming the victim of a property crime.

Attached is a form, which the City of Phoenix Police Department uses to help verify homeowners are doing everything in their power to keep their homes and your community safe.

One of the most unfortunate things I and many others within our profession encounter when doing an investigation for a property crime; is finding cameras on properties that are not functioning or oriented properly.

If you have a security system of any kind in place, whether it be a ring camera, multiple closed-circuit video system, or any other monitoring devices. Take time to verify the cameras and recording system is working properly at least once, if not multiple times a year. Assure the system is recording, and there are no obstructions in front of the cameras (landscaping), which would prevent them from capturing the area they are placed to see. You may also speak with neighbors who have cameras and verify that both cameras align and have as few gaps as possible. Keep in mind access points to your home and property may be present in front from the street as well as in the rear of your home from green belts or golf courses, etc.

Another large security issue I see often at properties is improper or poor lighting. Lighting alone is a deterrent. Criminals want to be concealed and away from prying eyes. Having bushes that obscure doorways, or poor lighting where it is hard to see into side yards, is one of their preferred avenues to enter. Make sure when looking at your property, that you can easily light up any dark areas that would provide access into your home. Of course, you don’t want to put out any light which might be intrusive to a neighbor, so be cautious and verify light patterns if you are putting in lights that could be close to a neighboring property.

Unlocked doors and windows to properties are another point I have seen over the years. Someone may leave their garage door leading into the house unlocked, thinking because the garage door is down, it is secure. Not realizing there are people who will have dozens of different garage door clickers, and drive through a neighborhood hitting the buttons, hoping to find one that is programed to the same code.

While you may feel confident something is secured, it is always best to just be safe and make sure all windows and doors are secured and locked.

There are many other items I could add to this list, which would make this email a small novel. But I will leave you with this: Most safety items to protect yourself and property, are all common sense, sometimes we get complacent and forget that bad things can happen in all areas, in all neighborhoods. So, take a few minutes, look over the home security check list, and verify if there are other ways you may help protect yourself and property.

If you would like more information. You can also stop by the Mountain View Precinct located at 2075 East Maryland Av, Phoenix, AZ, 85016 and look at the many brochures and pamphlets on many topics, to include burglary and theft prevention.

As always, continue to look out for yourselves, your neighbors and your communities.

Message From Arizona State Treasurer

Greetings Biltmore Area Partnership Members,

I am proud to share that under my leadership, the Arizona State Treasurer’s Office continues to see record earnings, growth in investments, and increased distributions to schools, state agencies, and local governments.

When I began as State Treasurer in 2019, Arizona’s assets were at $15.4 billion. Today, those assets have nearly doubled to $30.7 billion. Additionally, in just the last fiscal year, my Office has distributed a record-high of more than $1.215 billion in investment earnings to state agencies, our Local Government Investment Pool clients and the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund beneficiaries. I continue traveling across our state to meet with Local Government Investment Pool clients to update them on how we are wisely managing and growing their local money which comes from taxpayers like yourself. Additionally, at this week’s Board of Investment Meeting, I was pleased to report that the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund reached a record-high value of $8.24 billion. This means more money for our 13 beneficiaries, including K-12 education, which alone will receive $424 million this fiscal year. I am thankful for the continued hard work by my investment team at the Treasurer’s Office.A collage of several people

Financial Literacy also remains a top priority for my Office. I was honored to lead an initiative with members of the Financial Literacy Task Force to address the Arizona State Board of Education identifying areas where financial education requirements can be expanded in high school. We will continue to advocate for a separate personal finance course for all Arizona high school students who need essential skills in budgeting, saving and managing finances to ensure their future success as adults.A group of people standing in a room

Message from Councilman Kevin Robinson

The Phoenix Police Department and The Department of Justice

Some of you may be familiar with my background. I was able to live out my dream as a Phoenix Police Officer for 36 and a half years, rising to the rank of Assistant Police Chief, with stops that have included graduating from the FBI’s National Academy and their National Executive Institute.  Also, for over twenty years, I’ve been lecturing at ASU in the criminal justice and criminology program.

I mention these experiences because I believe they leave me uniquely qualified to assess our current situation with the Department of Justice. I think it is extremely important that the DOJ present its findings to the City Council before any agreements are signed.

I don’t think it has been unreasonable for the DOJ to investigate our department, and I do not oppose further action if it is warranted, but we must be allowed to make an informed decision based on the report the DOJ has put together.

Our department is far from perfect, but I can point to many times that we accepted valid criticism and worked to make changes that reflected what the community desired. One particular instance of this was when Phoenix PD became one of the first departments to fully implement Tasers to prevent lethal interactions. Phoenix was ahead of the curve on this because we understood change was needed.

The DOJ’s findings may indicate that outside monitoring is necessary, but we can’t know that until we see their report. As councilmembers, part of our responsibility is to ensure not only the safety of our citizens but to manage the money we spend as a city. Signing a consent decree could mean hundreds of millions of dollars diverted from services our residents need, as well as added strain on our police department.

This may all be necessary, but all I ask of the DOJ is that we have the opportunity to educate ourselves on the findings, rather than signing an agreement without the full context.

Thank you,

Kevin Robinson

Phoenix City Councilman, District 6

BUSINESS HIGHLIGHTS

The Phil Tibi Group Real Estate Market Update.

JANUARY STATS:

In summary, the January housing market exhibits mixed signals. While there's a decline in active listings, providing a slight advantage for sellers, pending and under-contract counts are notably lower, indicating a challenging environment for sellers. Despite a fall in mortgage rates, buyer activity hasn't surged, resulting in stable prices. It's too early to make definitive conclusions for 2024, but initial indicators lean towards a balanced market, offering mild optimism. The market shows no signs of a crash, with the hope resting on increased transaction volumes in the coming months. *Data from Cromford Report As always, we want you to know that we are here for you ready to help you make the best real estate decision for your unique needs.

Biltmore Fashion Park

AMBROGIO15

OPENING SOON

Gastronomy, fine Italian cuisine, and the fusion of different food experiences and cultures have been the core of the Ambrogio15 Group’s philosophy. We began in 2016 with Pizza, where our goal was to elevate this iconic dish, often considered “fast food” to a unique dining experience focused on high-quality ingredients and new flavor combinations. Over the years, we realized that it wasn’t just the pizza world we wanted to explore, but we aimed at bringing a fresh perspective of Italian cuisine.

New Clubhouse Construction Update:  We’re in the final stretch of construction of the new clubhouse as crews are now working on interior details and will soon begin exterior landscaping, and more. If you’ve ever built a home, you know that this time seemingly takes forever as the exterior looks nearly complete, while so many interior details remain unfinished. The clubhouse project is on track for its spring 2024 completion. To learn more about the new clubhouse and to see artist renderings, please visit the project website at www.yourbiltmoregolf.com.

Welcome Christophe Hermine:  The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club recently hired Christophe Hermine to lead clubhouse operations, including food and beverage and event management. Hermine will oversee the spring grand opening of the new Adobe Bar & Grille, the club’s new grab-and-go market known as The Pantry, as well as the venue’s event space, The Ballroom.  Hermine is a highly experienced and passionate hospitality industry veteran having led the operations at a number of private clubs and resorts, including The Peninsula Club in North Carolina and Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale. Prior to his time at Desert Mountain, Hermine served as the assistant general manager at Medinah Country Club in Illinois and before that, served in the same position at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale

Food and Beverage Option: With the former Adobe Restaurant now closed and the new clubhouse and restaurant scheduled to open this spring, the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club is offering guests food and beverage options out of the Halfway House. The menu includes made-to-order breakfast sandwiches, fresh turkey or ham sandwiches, the world-famous Biltmore Dog, as well as snacks, coffee and a wide selection of beverages.

New Estates Golf Course Featured In Golfweek:  The Arizona Biltmore Golf Club’s new Estates Course was featured in Golfweek Magazine on January 10th and again in the Arizona Republic/AZCentral on January 15th.  The article describes the course as “…a traditional, parkland-style layout with adjoining fairways allowing for the not-so-accurate tee shot to find a relatively friendly landing spot. The large, undulating greens will make for some creative putting opportunities…It’s the playability that makes the course fun.” For tee times visit www.AzBiltmoreGC.com.

Membership Sales Reopened: With the Estates Course open and the new clubhouse opening in 2024, membership sales have reopened at the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. Memberships are available for individuals, families and corporations. For more information on the membership options available, contact Steffen Koury at (602) 955-9794 or skoury@jdmgolf.com.

If you see this activity, please contact the golf shop, and if it is after hours, please contact the City of Phoenix Police Department. Use of the golf courses is reserved for members and customers of the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club. Trespassers, including (but not limited to) walkers, joggers and those walking pets, will be cited. For your safety, please do not enter the clubhouse construction area. We appreciate your cooperation.
